BROTHERS ON ROAD - MUMBAI- DELHI - DHARMASHALA - BULLATIAPA NOVEMBER 2016

Finally, the dates were announced, a wave of excitement was all around. Some planning ride before & some planning a ride post-Bullatiapa – 4Play.

The Mumbai Chapter was making their plans too. Here we sit with dates in our mind & work on our hands.

We usually plan our rides in groups & try to stick with each other. It gives everyone a different level of confidence. Everything getting planned & set for the ride. And I get a great news about my cousin`s wedding. I am happy and at the same time, I am confused. I didn’t want to miss any of the events. For me attending both, cousin`s wedding & bullatiapa was important.

But what a relief this one call gave me. The wedding date was fixed a week before the dates of bullatiapa. I got my energy back & was on track again to make plans.

My mom was against of riding bikes to Delhi. But it was also not feasible for us, me & Mohnish to attend the wedding, come back to Mumbai & ride back to Delhi with the whole Mumbai Chapter.

So we decided & convinced mom about our riding to Delhi a week prior to our biking event & attending the wedding.

***DAY 1***

I & Mohnish did all our preparations for this journey of life & called it “Brothers on Road”. I was riding “Fernweh” Classic 350CC, & Mohnish on his Himalayan 411CC.

Tea Break after crossing a toll naka
We planned our ride & started on 15th November 2016 with a target to reach Udaipur on the same day which is 790km from Mumbai. The excitement of the ride could not let us sleep & we kick start at 445AM from our place in Jogeshwari. Soon we were 100km away from Mumbai & hungry. We took our first break at “Hotel Athiti” which is located on the Highway at Charoti. Had some yummy & heavy breakfast before we started our journey again. Initially, we were riding a bit slow but then realized we have to reach Udaipur on the same day. We crossed Surat around 11AM. As the day progresses, we started getting local traffic on the highway which made us ride slow. We wanted to enjoy the ride also safety was always in our mind.

Fernweh & Himalayan Taking rest
We were using a pair of LEXIN R6 Bluetooth Intercom Device which made us easy to ride during the night time. As we ride, we keep an eye on the fellow rider through the rearview mirrors. It`s easy to locate your fellow rider in the mirrors during the daytime, but a bit difficult at night.

We entered the city of lakes Udaipur. Sanjay Babble, a rider from Udaipur Chapter & a very good friend, was waiting at the check post to receive us. It was so nice to see Sanjay almost after a few months and he looked as great as he was when I did a ride with him in March 2016.

He took us to the place where we were supposed to stay that night. Taking us from the narrow arterial lane of Udaipur, its rich culture through its painted walls. intricately carved doorways and traditional haveli have by the lakefront. And here we are, Ravi Soni, another rider and a dear friend from Udaipur, booked our stay at Hotel Lake View Haveli, situated right in the middle of the city. We took a quick shower & headed for dinner to the rooftop restaurant. It was a very cold night, even the house wants to have a house of their own so they can enter inside them and feel warm. We had some delicious delicacies for dinner.

Tired, exhausted & excited to meet the brother from IBR`s Udaipur Chapter the next day, we were chit chatting in our room, I didn't know when I drifted off to sleep.

***DAY 2***

With the loud sound of the alarm, I woke up. Got ready quickly & headed for breakfast. With an amazing view from the rooftop, only to realize then where we had dinner last night was so pretty. With a lovely view of Taj Lake Palace, Located on a natural foundation of 4-acre rock on the Jag Niwas Island in Lake Pichola. We could see almost the entire city from here. We clicked some photographs & decided to move ahead in the day.
Panoramic view from the rooftop restaurant in Udaipur.

Discussing our day 2 ride towards Jaipur, we planned a small lunch ride with our Udaipur brothers. Started by visiting Sanjay`s home, took blessing from his mother & off to Jaipur. Udaipur Chapter tagged along for a small ride on the LAL GHAT. We took a halt for lunch, meet Sujet (CH-Udaipur - 2016), had yummy local food, shared some jokes & created some memoried. It was time for us to bid them off and continue our journey towards Jaipur.

with IBRMC Udaipur

SANJAY - ASHISH - RAVI

Jaipur is nearly 400km from Udaipur. We started at 345pm expecting to reach Jaipur by 10pm. We rode a single way and also a 3 lane highway from time to time. The journey was pretty much of. Taking tea break & having some mom made thepalas. Soon it turned out to be dark & the drop in the temperature was not making us ride fast. We managed to ride & coordinate with the help of intercoms.

We entered Jaipur late at night. We began the search for a hotel on Oyo rooms & soon found a decent one. Our pocket-friendly stay for the night. We checked our route plans for the next day & went off to bed.

***DAY 3***

I got up early as I was waiting to see my friend after years. It was early morning so we had a walk at the local chai tapri. Our conversation was never-ending, but the clock was also ticking. So we bid her a bye & started our ride towards Delhi. Only to find that we are lost in the city road of Jaipur. Took us an hour to get back on track due to city traffic.

270km & we are in Delhi. As per what we heard about the Gurgaon traffic we were a bit scared to face it. But we fought well to win over the traffic and reach the venue where mom & other relatives were eagerly waiting to meet us.

Mom - Mohnish - Kanika - Mama - Aarti - Ashish - Mami

Mohnish - Mama - Ashish

We somehow felt like celebrities. Everyone around us started clicking picture & asking all question that came into their mind regarding our ride from Mumbai to Delhi.

***Post Wedding - Day 6***

The wedding went well. We all had a lot of fun. Now Mohnish & I, have 5 days before Bullatiapa. We are confused as there are many places that can be covered on our bikes. Kasol, Tosh, Sach but then we had a discussion with Shushant our rider brother from Delhi Chapter. We planned out a trip to McLeod Ganj - Dharamshala.

The Trio started riding towards McLeod around 3pm on 21st November 2016. The ride was going smooth. Our night stay was arranged by Shushant at Dera Bassi. We took a turn from the main highway towards Dera Bassi. the condition of the road was too good. We all were enjoying riding at a decent speed/ Shushant was in the lead, followed by Mohnish & then me. Clam & dark. Suddenly, my electrical of the bike failed, lights went off and the bike refused to star. I could not contact Shushant or Mohnish due to no network. Our intercoms also failed to conned as Mohnish went out of coverage area. I tried asking for help with the locals, but they won`t stop their bikes & car. Finally, I tried to look into the matter. I checked the spark plug first, it was fine. I was thinking about what could have gone wrong. I saw 2 lights approaching me. I was expecting about Mohnish & Sushant & bingo they were here to help me. After a while of discussion we finally checked with the fuse & yes the fault was there. It was late at night, we decided to come back from 20km towards the highway & stay there for the night.

Lunch break at Rasoi Resturant - Sushant - Ashish - Mohnish

Early morning we searched for a local mechanic & got the electrical fixed. We are ready again to ride hard. Our today's target was to reach McLeod.

We reached Naddi which is few kilometres ahead of McLeod Ganj around 815PM, but the atmosphere out there was as if it was 12 at night. we figured out a place to crash that night. A huge room with all amenities for 3 people at just Rs.1000/-. Early in the morning the artistic golden sun got up like a baby and started painting the dark black sky into a bright blue sky. The view from our room`s window was so awesome. Seriously, you have no idea, looking out of the window, I can see mountains weaving across the horizon. Cloudy sky & the snow-covered peaks instead of a concrete landscape. What a lovely morning. We saddled up our bikes & move towards McLeod. Which is around 5Km & we took 15 min to each McLeod.

Drinks break on the way

Night Stay at Naddi

Early Morning View from the room

While riding to McLeod we visited Brig Sher Jung Thapa memorial garden. Brig Sher Jung Thapa was awarded, The Maha Vir Chakkar for displaying outstanding leadership during one of the crises in 1948.

The most adventurous part of our trip was demonetization. We were facing some issues using our old currency. But locals there were really helpful, they accepted our old currency. We got a decent stay in McLeod & booked it for a night. It was noon, so planned to visit the Shiva Cafe which is situated near the Bhagsunag Waterfall. On our way to the cafe, we visited the Bhagsu Nag Temple. We had to do a small trek for 20 mins to reach Shiva Cafe. Shiva Cafe is one of the most famous places in McLeod Ganj - Dharmashala. The best thing is the amazing view of the mountains and Bhagsu Nag Waterfall. We fell in love with this place instantly. Shiva Cafe is worth every step & every single sharp breath that you take as you climb up. We had delicious hot coffee & Maggie.

We trek down from Shiva Cafe & were in search of some place where we can sit & chill. On this trip, we were lucky to get rooftop cafes & restaurants everywhere. This time it was the highest rood top cafe in Mcleod Ganj. The manager made us sit at the best tables in his restaurant. A breathtaking view was waiting for us. The sunset, a magnificent view of the whole town in the real, the colour of the sky just turned dark blue from orange. I have never met a sunset I didn't love. We ordered some local food, some Momos & Thuppa. We spend some more time at the restaurant taking & making new friends. We called our night off at the restaurant & went back to our hotel. We were tired & almost dazing. We have a long day waiting for us tomorrow.

Sun Set & The City in Valley

Making Friends everywhere we go

It was a normal morning in the mountains. We planned to have a breakfast on our way back to Delhi. And what could be better than Momos and garam chai. We hogged on Momo`s as if we will never get to eat every in our life.

Breakfast - Momo`s Maggi & Chai

Descending towards Delhi, we visited the Dharamshala War Memorial. War Memorial is located at the entry point of the Dharamshala town and was built to commemorate the memory of those who fought valiantly for the honour of their motherland. The place is located in the pine forest & one can have a pleasant walk in the woods. How can we not click any photographs? Our next location to visit was the very famous Dharamshala Cricket Stadium (HPCA). Every step forward towards the stadium we could not control our excitement. The first view of the ground was jaw-dropping. Stunning. Breathtaking. Awesome. These are the words which pop out as soon as we saw this cricket ground. The Stadium is set against the backdrop of the dramatic snow clad mountains, is perched on the high slopes in the upper reaches of the Kangra valley. With a wish to play a small game of cricket on this ground with our friends we bid adieu.

CHOSE YOUR HELMET WISELY

Riding a motorcycle gives the rider freedom on the open road. However, there are serious dangers involved in riding without any safety measures & most importantly a helmet.

You all know motorcycles don`t provide us with the structural safety & protection that a car does to keep the driver & other passengers safe in the event of an unfortunate accident.

We as motorcyclist or bikers need to take some extra protection to protect our body parts. The most important is to protect our head.

As we all know very well, the head & brain is the most vulnerable to get injured in any case of a motorcycle accident. The rider & pillion wearing helmets increase the chances of survival significantly over the people not wearing any protection on their head.

**Studies have stated that 1214 road accident occurs in India per day. Motorcycles account for 25% of the total road accidents.

Let me share some of the tips on selecting the best protective helmet for you & pillion.

 FULL-FACE HELMETS
These helmets offer complete protection in case of any accidents. The other parts of your face including jaws are equally vulnerable. You will surely not like to have a disfigured face. These full-face helmets that can save you from disfigurement.

OPEN-FACE HELMETS
Comfort wise, these helmets are better because they give you greater visibility. People with glasses love this kind of helmets. But, it does leave you thinking as it does not give you full protection for your face.

HALF HELMETS
These helmets offer the basic protection to your head. They are light and hence very popular. You need a good strap to keep this helmet in place.

There are more options & types of helmets popular amongst the riding fraternity & the young generation. Following are the details of these kinds of helmets.

MODULAR HELMETS
This is a combination of an Open face & Full face helmets. There is an option to flip open the chin bar thereby functioning as a three-quarter helmet. This allows you to have a drink (Non-Alcoholic) without removing your helmet.
Drawback: The hinges make it a comparatively weak structure.

OFF-ROAD HELMETS
Bike racers prefer to go for such helmets. They often get ventilation, sometimes protects from direct sunlight, but are not ideal for riding on the highways as the high-speed wind makes it difficult to keep the head stable while riding.

DUAL-SPORT HELMETS
These helmets look stylish & trendy but do not offer the complete protection that a full-face helmet does. Similar to Off-road helmets.

So above are the types of helmets available in the market form various brands. It's very important to choose the right helmet for the rider & pillion.

Injuries to the head are major causes of fatalities in accidents involving two-wheeler. Helmets can go a long way in reducing the severity of the face & head injuries. This is the main reason behind the move by the Indian Government to make helmets compulsory while riding a Two-wheeler. The law stipulates that both the rider and the pillion rider are supposed to wear helmets. There are strict fines amounting to a payment of Rs.500/- under section 129 MVA/ 177 MVA in the state of Maharashtra. source:  https://trafficpolicemumbai.maharashtra.gov.in/fine/

Impact area on Helmet during an accident.

These tips will help you choose the right helmet.

COMFORT
The helmet should fit your head perfectly. This will give you the maximum comfort on the road while riding a motorcycle even if you ride on bumpy roads. Ensure to tighten the straps so that the helmet does not fall off. That`s when it makes sense to always try one before buying. Yes, that means you may end up returning a few before the perfect one comes your way if you buy online. But I would suggest you buy one from a store where you can get to try as many you want with a perfect fit.

MATERIAL
The helmets should be solid from outside as well as from inside. You should have good cushioning inside the helmet to absorb the shocks and even have ventilation as well. This can help prevent injuries to your head.

HYGIENE
Wearing helmets will cause sweating. The cushioning material inside the helmets can absorb the sweat. Therefore, it is necessary to have helmets that consist of detachable parts. This allows you to clean the helmet and reduces chances of allergies. Vents are always welcome for this

WEIGHT
Your helmets should be of an optimum weight. A heavy one can put an undue strain on your neck muscles that can add discomfort while riding. if possible wear a helmet and ride for 30 minutes before buying the same.

THE RIGHT TYPE
As mention above in this blog, the types of helmets. Choose the one you are most comfortable with. A Full Face helmet offers the maximum protection which we all need on Indian Roads.

VENTILATION
No one likes to get suffocated while riding. Naturally, your helmet should have proper ventilation without compromising on the safety.

CERTIFICATION OF HELMETS
Certain cities in India have made it mandatory for two-wheelers to wear helmets with ISI or BIS certification. Although it is not compulsory to wear helmets with certification, it does pay for safe rather than be sorry.

I hope this Helmet buying guide will help you buy a good & best quality helmets in India.
So what are you waiting from, Go on, try some helmets & pick the right one for your head?

"Vella, Rides to Vellas"

Ride Dates: March 30th - April 1st, 2018

When life gets complicated, I Ride.

It was the long weekend off and financial year ending. With the pressure of paying all taxes and filling I.T returns, it was time to release your stress. After the successful Maha Coastal Solo Ride (MCSR) during the 1st week of March 2018, it was time again to explore and experience the bliss once again.

Sipping my just made hot coffee, I was deep in thoughts with a wandering mind. Having explored entire coastal Maharashtra, I was now comparing every other location to beat the upcoming one. For a fact, I understand that every ride experience is different and unexplainable. But, I wanted to explore someplace which I had never been to. I then started asking my peers about their experiences and rides. While short-listing, there were many interesting places in and out of Maharashtra. A certain place in Maharashtra grabbed my attention and I instantly looked it up.

I was too much convinced the plan to visit this place and finally, my destination was declared to ‘Fernweh’ (my partner to this ride, My bike). I decided to explore Velas.

Fernweh
About Velas: Velas is a small eco-village in Ratnagiri district which is famous for the Olive Ridley Turtle population that visits the Velas beach every year and lay eggs. At Velas, turtle conservation movent is undertaken by the villagers.

Ecotourism in Velas: Velas is not only home to turtles but also to a myriad of bird species including the White Bellied Sea Eagle, White Backed Vulture and Indian Swiftlet. Accommodation in the local home-stay will add a truly warm touch to the experience.
Velas is around 238km from Mumbai.

My Itinerary was prepared. I and 'Fernweh' were ready to take on yet another exciting journey. I started riding on March 30th, 2018. Being a Friday and start to the long weekend I was expecting some traffic as many Mumbaikars would have planned an outing this weekend. To avoid this traffic I started early in the morning at 6.30AM. Tanked up Fernweh and started to ride towards Panvel. The idea was to explore some other route of interior Konkan but was also excited to be on the same route I rode on during my Maha Coastal Ride 2018. Route taken was Jogeshwari - Panvel - Vadkal Naka - Kelghar - Agardanda Jetty - Srivardhan - Valshi Jetty - Velas
Starting early gives you a benefit of taking halts and explore some new places. I took a breakfast break at the Karjat-Matheran junction. Sipping a cup of hot adrak chai with hot vada pav. Moving ahead, I was riding on an easy route as the road and the conditions were familiar to me. Ideally, the plan was to reach Velas by late afternoon, but I was running late as I had to spend more time at Agardanda Jetty and Velshi Jetty. I reached Velas around 7.30PM. It was dark and I was hungry. The idea was to pitch a tent on Velas beach and spend the night beachside. Unfortunately due to the panchayat rules no one is allowed to pitch the camps on the beach. I was disappointed and had to return back. I saw a small shop where I bought some biscuits and water. I asked the shopkeeper if he can help me with some place I can pitch my tent and stay. He offered me his backyard which had huge coconut trees. I was tired I pitched my tent & had the yummiest home cooked food offered by the shopkeeper`s family. Post dinner, I planned to ride for a small distance to a place where the sea meets the road. I parked 'Fernweh' and sat with him here for a while taking in the aroma of the cool sea breeze, the sound of the crashing waves, I relaxed. Around 1.30AM, I returned to my tent and with high hopes to go to the beach to see Baby Turtles. Listening to soft music, I retired for the day in my tent.
I was woken up by the sound of birds chirping and the cool breeze. Suprise to see Omkar kept a cup of tea ready for me as I woke up. I got ready and rushed towards the beach. Only to see there are many tourists who have come from Mumbai and Pune to witness the Baby Turtles. We waited for the officials to come and complete the routine process of counting the newborn turtles. And now it was the time for these new lives to begin their journey towards the sea. Tourists stand on either side fo a roped aisle, cameras in hand, for what`s one of the years most awaited 'Red Carpet Walks'. As volunteers release the day`s first batch of Olive Ridley Turtle hatchlings, cameras go off. As though choreographed, babies make their way into the sea, guided by the morning sun. As "On release, when the hatchlings head to the sea, they record the place`s geomagnetic field intensity, remembering it till they return as adults, "This is a key moment in their lives." says one of the volunteer I spoke to "Fifteen years later, the females from the batch will reappear to nest and lay eggs at the exact spot of their birth. They will hatch 50-60 days later. And the cycle goes on", she said

After spending some time at the beach clicking photographs and networking with other tourists, I headed back to omkar`s place, where I have pitched my tent for the night. Only to be welcomed again with a plate of hot poha & kadak chai for breakfast. I had a plan to visit Mirya Beach which is 12km from Ratnagiri. This beach has recently started Scuba Diving. With a great experience in Tarkarli during MCSR 2018, I was excited to do scuba again.

I enquired about more places to explore in the close by area and got to know about Bankot fort, which was around 10km from the place I was. I started my journey towards Bankot. Being a fan of James Bond movies and the expensive shots, where the action is set on coastal roads in foreign locals. Never did I imagine that India too has a similar coastal road. The road which leads towards Velas from Bankot may not be as smooth as the ones shown in Hollywood, but the views here are indeed as spectacular as once you see abroad. Took another 15mins ride uphill through some narrow village roads. At the main entrance of the fort, there is a small sloping platform where one can park 2 -3 cars. As expected of any fort, this one offers fantastic views of the surroundings including the beaches below. One can clearly see the different color of the river and the sea water mingling. The time spent watching the waves run into the sands below was one of the highlights.

View from Bankot Fort

After spending some time at the Bankot fort clicking some pics it was time for me to move towards Mirya beach. Mirya is around 200kms from Velas. Ridding on the same route towards Ratnagiri (Velas - Anjarle - Dabhol Jetty - Guhagar - Tavasal Ferry Crossing - Ratnagiri) I took the lunch break around 4PM at Hotel Rajgad which I missed during my MCSR 2018 in Guhagar. After having some lip licking Konkan veg food, I headed towards Tavasal Ferry Crossing. Tavasal - Jaigad Ferry runs every 40 mins and I  just missed to board the 5.40PM ferry so had to wait for the 6.40PM ferry. It was another amazing ferry ride crossing Jaigad River. Met a young boy who just gave his 12th board exams, on the ferry. He was excited to know how I manage to travel solo. We had a good conversation and here we are at Jaigad Jetty Point. It was almost dark and I was upset as I was going to miss out the lovely view from Ganeshgule to Ratnagiri. So I took the other route, SH 106 towards Ratnagiri. It`s a dark road with a lot of curves but the sun goes down its one hell of a ride. Reached Mirya around 9.30PM only to know that there are no staying options available, so had to return back to Ratnagiri. Took a room in Hotel Safari Asia and unloaded "Fernweh". Got freshen up and went out to explore some nightlife in Ratnagiri. Soon it was 11.30PM, then when I realized, tomorrow will be a new chapter in life. With high excitement, I switched the lights off.

Got up early in the morning, had breakfast and headed straight to Mirya Beach for all new scuba diving experience. Harsha Scuba Diving (+91 7719905533), well-educated & certified instructor took me deep in the water and we took a deep dive inside. The best way to see fish is, become a fish. I went 10 meters deep in the sea. I can mention many moments that are unforgettable. It was the second time I was doing scuba within a month`s time but at a new location. Have been underwater for 30 minutes. Experiencing the beautiful underwater life, I was given instructions. Exploring the underwater marine life, corals & rockscapes. I have already experienced this before, but it was more exciting than the last time. Here, I got to see different species of fishes, the rockscapes were amazing but the only thing that disappointed me was the clarity of the water. It was not as clean as it was at Tarkarli.

It was time to head back to the bay. I came back to the hotel room, packed my bag and we were on our way to Mumbai. While returning, I took the Ratnagiri - Chiplun - Panvel Highway. It was around 4.30PM and the weather conditions were not supporting me to ride. Took a break, for having some water but ended up having a whole 4kg watermelon. Riding post-sunset was a bit stressful as it`s not comfortable with high beam lights hitting your eyes by the opposite traffic. I was back home around 12:30AM.

It was a wonderful experience. Have learned one thing on this trip “Travel with fewer plans and more freedom” Covering 944 km over a span of 3 days. Mumbai – Velas – Ratnagiri – Mumbai. Partial Coastal Route & highways. This solo trip not only pushed me out of my comfort zone but also pushed me out of the zone of others expectation.

Few Pointers if you plan a trip.

-    Dates for The Turtle Fest in Velas & Anjarle are in March & April.
 -   Mumbai – Velas – Mumbai can be done in 2 days.
-   Carry cash as there is no ATM in Velas
-   You will not get any network in Velas so make all your important calls at Velshi Jetty.

MAHA COASTAL RIDE DAY 5 (last day) - A Solo Trip to Cover The Coast Of Maharashtra - Sagari Mahamarg

If you have missed out on reading Day 1 - 4 click no the links below.

Day 5: Tarkarli - Vengurla - Siroda - Mumbai: March 5th, 2018

Tarkarli Beach

"FILL YOUR LIFE WITH EXPERIENCES, NOT THINGS.

HAVE STORIES TO TELL, NOT STUFFS TO SHOW"

I couldn`t sleep due to the excitement. I had planned something really huge for the next day. SCUBA Diving, an underwater experience where we dive-in deep in the ocean and get introduced to the magnificent mysteries of the underwater world. I work up at 4.30AM the next day and was eagerly waiting for the Sun to shine so that I could run towards this adventure sport. It was not planned at all. In fact, I became aware of the existence of Scuba Diving in an area like this when I arrived at Tarkarli the other night. I instantly signed up for it as I have always wanted to do this but never got a chance. (Jay Ganesh Scuba Diving: 9404754005/9421236315)

Far In The Ocean

We were around 8 people on the first boat ride that took us 6 km in the ocean, I was given instruction by our trainer Rohan who also dived with me and took me around 40 ft. deep in the sea. It has been a once in lifetime experience till now for me. Exploring the underwater marine life, corals & rockscapes with the help of an underwater breathing Scuba Diving kit. I was underwater for 20 min but I felt like going in again and again. The calmness of the sea was so overwhelming. Once I came upon the boat, I asked the head instructor if it`s ok to jump in the sea for a swim and he said it was more than fine as he also wanted us to enjoy. I jumped in for a swim. went under the boat where I saw more fishes & surprisingly a couple of jellyfish.

Check the video on youtube: https://youtu.be/A9EEz4sR5Rc

I was back from Scuba and started my ride for the last 2 places to be checked off in the list - Vengurla which is 56 km from Tarkarli & Shiroda another 15 km. Vengurla & Shiroda are on the Maharashtra - Goa State Border. Considering them as the last beaches on Maharashtra Coastal Line, I ended my MAHA COASTAL RIDE

Just a Still

Shiroda to Mumbai Via Amobli Ghat - Kolhapur - Wakad is nearly around 630 Km & it was not possible to reach the same night. I was already missing the incredible ride on the Maharashtra Coastal Route - Sagari Mahamarg

A View from top of Vengurla Light House / Vengurla Port
Fernweh at Dutch Factory - Vengurla
I was 420 km away from Wakad where I planned to stay for a night at Abhas`s place. Abhas is a brother from IBR Pune Chapter. I started riding around 3.40 PM from Shiroda Beach towards Amboli Ghats & reached Amboli Waterfall at 5.00 PM. It was quick to cover 60 Km. I then took a tea break & started riding towards Wakad - Pune where again I took a snacks break at Goa Phata at Hotel Satyawati. It was the same Hotel was IBR Mumbai took an overnight halt while coming back from Bengaluru Bullatiapa 2015. Then I did a nonstop ride to Abhas's home covering nearly 290 Km. It was super exhausting. With a lot of chit-chats, we slept at 4.00 AM. Then I started my ride back home at 9.00 AM and was home by 1.00 PM because of the usual Mumbai city traffic.

Overall it was a great experience to ride on Maharashtra Coastal Highway. The mesmerizing view of the Ocean on one side through the trip with the motivation to ride more & more. Have covered around 1450 km in 5 days. Sometimes it necessary for us to get disconnected with the world we are living in and enjoy our own company. As said by Dan Aykroyd "You don't need a therapist if you own a motorcycle, any kind of motorcycle"

Have shared the whole route plan in Day 1 blog, you can refer & plan your trip. Get in touch if any more details required.

Few pointers if you plan a trip.
- The trip can be done in 3 days to reach Goa or depending on a personal choice.
- No need to worry about fuel, loads of fuel pump on the way.
- ATM`s, Hotels & local food joints available on the way.
- Carry your bikes spare parts to be on a safer side.
- Ferry crossing fee is 50 Rs for the rider along with the bike.
- Language: Marathi & Hindi
- Most important: Travel and enjoy the beauty of Samudri Mahamarg - Maharashtra Coastal Route, be polite with the locals and please don't litter.

MAHA COASTAL RIDE DAY 3 & 4 - A Solo Trip to Cover The Coast Of Maharashtra - Sagari Mahamarg

If you missed out the Day 1 & Day 2, click on the links below

Day 3: Ganeshgule, March 3rd, 2018

Perks of traveling also include socializing and meeting new people. And since I was not at all running behind the schedules, I took the liberty to party with my brothers of IBRMC`s Mumbai Chapter and it went on past midnight. I also got an opportunity to take in the alluring sight of the Sun rising with the hues of Purple, Red, and Orange in the sky. The mesmerizing sight and overwhelming calmness of the sea is a never to be missed opportunity. I slept for a while that morning. We feed ourselves with an authentic and local breakfast of 'Poha', 'Thali Pet' with some amazing hot 'masala chai'. a must try a combination.

We then headed towards the beach as I did not get a chance to enjoy the beauty the other day as I reached post sunset. There was a hill right next to and attached to the beach. We were thrilled to explore something new and hence decided on an impromptu trek. We trekked our way to the peak of that elevation and our sore and tired legs were instantly healed with the sight in front of us. We all just stood there in silence, knowing that a view like that needed no praise. It was windy up there, but we could still listen to the sound of the waves and just took in the breathtaking view of the ocean. We spent some time there and then got busy in recording a few memories of that beautiful place. We sat on the cliff for nearly an hour and then trekked our way down.

As soon as we got down, we changed into swimwear and ran into the water to now enjoy the sea water and some swimming. By the time we came out of the water, it was past lunchtime. We left the beach and headed back to Koko`s beach resort where we enjoyed the yummiest meal of my entire trip, 'Surmai Fry and Curry'. It was evening, we again went down for a walk on the beach and I enjoyed my dinner with brothers 'Prawns Fry and Chicken Curry'. The next day, the brothers had to leave for Mumbai and I had to continue my journey towards Malvan.

Day 4: Ganeshgule to Malvan, March 4th, 2018

I started off my journey with a heavy heart since they were leaving. But with a new spirit and thrilled to enjoy my solo ride, I bid them goodbye. I first rode towards Gaokhadi Beach. It is around 10km from Ganeshgule. It was a single lane highway and the weather was pleasant with a cool breeze. I was again mesmerized by the stunning beauty of Gaokhadi Beach. With the help of locals, I added Ambolgad in my list which was only 30km from Gaokhadi. A small stretch on this road was adventurous with some off-roading. Around 945AM, I was at the Ambolgad Cliff talking with the wind.

Returning down from the cliff, I visited the Ambolgad Fort and the Beach. It was then time for me to move towards my next location, Devgad. But before that, I made an instant change in plan and visited the Vijaydurg Fort. It was not on the way I was riding. I had to ride south towards Padel Canteen & then take a turn and 15km north to reach Vijaydurg. I reached at 11:45AM. I spend some quality time at the Vijaydurg Fort. Had a small where to`s and how to`s conversation with the locals and resumed my ride towards Devgad.

I visited the Devgad Fort, Devgad Lighthouse, and Devgad Windmills. After spending some time it was time for me to head towards Tarkarli with two more places to cover in my list: Achara Beach and Malvan. I took a tea break at Achara Beach and rode towards Malvan. I reach Malvan at 5:30 in the evening. I couldn`t find any good place for stay at Malvan which would fit my budget. But I had some time in my hand before the sunset so I moved towards Tarkarli.

Devgad Beach
It took me 20min to reach Tarkarli Beach. I started hunting for a place to crash that night and was successful in landing up at very comfortable homestay - Unnati (Mr. Bhalchandra - 9420261294/9403077540) which is 2 min walk from the main beach. I unloaded my bike and got settled. As soon as I crashed in the bed, I was fast asleep in no time. Next, when I woke up, I realized it was dinner time. When in Malvan, I would strongly suggest eating the most famous Malvani Khana. 'Surmai Thali' with 'Prawns Fry' and 'Solkadi'.  After a long and a tiring day, it was time for me to crash in the bed with some amazing things planned for the next morning which I was super excited for.
